breakfast preparation and serving for 13 years at Covenant House - Texas.
During the weekdays and on Saturdays, residents are served cold breakfast
but on Sunday they receive a hot cooked meal with the Knights
assistance..... Occasionally, we are also asked to assist preparing sacked
sandwich lunches to be served early in the week to resident and
non-resident clients.....
We have a regular schedule where each of 6 teams supports Covenant
House in succession (working 1 week in 6). We typically meet at the
church and park at the green building behind the parish center at 7:00
a.m. and carpool downtown. We cook, serve, and perform minor cleanup
and return to CGS in time for 10:45 a.m. mass.
This is a great ministry. The troubled teens need some responsible father
figures with whom to interact to serve as role models. We show them that
nonpaid Catholic men do care about them and their needs. It warms your
heart to be able to provide a positive influence to kids needing to know
someone loves them.
The volunteer schedule is regular which assists in personal planning. We
have sufficient Knights on each team such that you don't feel bad if you
miss a week. You can perform volunteer duties, attend church, and still
have your Sunday afternoons and evenings free. You work with other
Knights and develop a close camaraderie.

years and can assist you in volunteering for one week to see if this is a
ministry that you would like to perform long term.
